This year for the first time ever Romford YMCA showcased themselves at the Barking and Dagenham Town show, an event that is held annually at Central park in Dagenham and plays host to over 80,00 visitors over the two days. Our marquee could not fail to be noticed! At 24 x 12 m we were one of the largest exhibitors present, and managed to fill our marquee to the brim without problem. Every department within the Romford YMCA showcased themselves and our visitors had the opportunity to sample everything we do, from taking part in a rowing challenge with our fitness department, to guessing fruit with the catering team, listening to music played by some of our residents, or not to be missed, having your face painted by our childcare team, the weekend was tremendous fun for everyone!! But as well as ensuring that everyone had a great time, we were keen to get the message across to a wider audience about the work and activities that take place here, particularly in this our centenary year. So many people were surprised to learn that we have such a comprehensive childcare programme, or that our housing and support team provide so much more than a room to those who need it. In so many areas we hope to have opened the eyes of our visitors and look forward to seeing them here in the future. We also entered the parade for the first time ever, and are extremely proud to have been placed second!! The theme was west end musicals and we entered our float as South Pacific with the Romford YMCA School of Dancing on the back, followed by the Romford Rollers our Roller-skating group, they looked magnificent! All in all, it was a tremendous team effort, and a great weekend demonstrating to the world at large our wonderful organization. We are mad enough to want to do it all again next year! We hope to see you there!!!
