Meet Graham Foster, a member of Romford YMCA for over 10 years, a sign writer by trade Graham kindly gave our studio a much needed facelift in 2005, and came to the fore again recently when asked to give our sign on the roof an overhaul. Completely undaunted working 150ft up we think that Graham has done a fantastic job and in this our centenary year it couldn’t have happened at a better time.

Graham has just completed the London Marathon (3hrs 38 mins), and is currently training for the Iron Man in Vienna, no mean feat as it entails swimming 2.4 miles, cycling for 112 miles, and then completing a marathon 26 miles, and all of this to be completed in under 16 hours !!!! Graham works out in the gym here regularly as well participating in a number of classes.
Grahams recent work credits include a number of graffiti collages and a tribute to George Best for the famous Ben Sherman label.

Children from Romford YMCA After School Care Provision were lucky enough to undertake an anti bullying workshop on Thursday 9th March.

The workshop run by Arc Drama Group targeted the issue of bullying through the use of stories, drama and role-play. The children were able to explore what it feels like to be bullied and what steps can be taken to tackle the bullies. The children thoroughly enjoyed the session and were eager to discuss what they had learned.
Alison Fordham the Childcare Manager said “The workshop was an invaluable tool to enable children to explore the complex issue of bullying. I feel that this session benefited the children as it raised awareness of bullying in a safe and fun environment.”

Dear Sir/Madam
I take this opportunity to thank the YMCA, Romford, Childcare department for their support throughout a seamless move for my six year old son’s from his former after-school care provider to YMCA at Wykeham Hall.
From the moment I telephoned the YMCA to query whether they could accommodate my son, all the staff I dealt with (Gemma, Alison and Sarah in the office and Mel and the other girls (I’m rubbish with names) at the hall) were polite, informative, accommodating and most importantly, reassuring .
Sarah was extremely efficient and ensured that all the required paperwork was issued to me promptly and the move took place within a week.
Our visit to the Hall was equally enjoyable. Mel fully explained the daily routine and security procedures while the other girls tried to engage my son who was a bit shy and apprehensive. I left very confident that the YMCA would be more than suitable to care for my precious little boy.
And when I have collected my son each day since he started, I have been impressed with what I saw upon arrival. The activities are fun, well structured and organised; every child seems to be taking part and every child looks content. Even when watching a video one evening, all the children were sitting quietly and were happily watching the film or whispering amongst themselves.
I have been asked for my security password each night without fail despite the staff knowing who I am by now.
The most important factor is that my son is happy and content to the extent that he was ‘told off’ for enthusing about the YMCA with his classmates during the school day when he should have been writing his ‘news’! He loves the afternoon walk from school to the Hall and has enjoyed all the activities, even asking that I don’t collect him too early! And he is so proud that he has been awarded a star already.
The staff at our school office have also commented that the YMCA staff are always there before the bell goes at the end of the day and are waiting to collect the children.
As a mum who feels guilty enough that she has to work and cannot collect her child from school, I am delighted with the YMCA After School Care provision and the thought my son is happy and well cared for goes a long way to allaying that guilt.
Please feel free to use this letter to promote the facility, should you feel the need
Yours
C. Robson
